Smart WiFi Mobile App

Role: UX/UI Designer
Company: Altice

Context

Altice introduced Smart WiFi, a feature that automatically connects devices to the best available WiFi band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz). This eliminated the need for customers to manually choose between two separate networks, simplifying the experience and improving connectivity. The Optimum Support app needed a new workflow to promote Smart WiFi and guide users through turning it on.

My Contribution

As the UX/UI Designer, I designed the end-to-end Smart WiFi activation experience within the mobile app:

  • Call to Action in WiFi Settings: Added a clear prompt to “Turn on Smart WiFi” with the option to learn more before enabling.
  • Educational Splash Page: Created a dedicated screen explaining the benefits of Smart WiFi and encouraging users to activate it.
  • Activation Flow: Designed a lightweight process that ran in the background, minimizing friction for the user.
  • Confirmation State: Updated the WiFi settings page to display a success message once Smart WiFi was enabled. At this point, users saw only a single SSID instead of two, reflecting the simplified network experience.
  • Error State: Sometimes there could be an issue where the activation of Smart WiFi may error out, so we needed a page that indicates to the user that something had happened.

Outcome

The new Smart WiFi workflow improved user awareness and adoption of the feature while reducing confusion caused by dual network bands. The experience delivered a smoother onboarding flow, helping users activate Smart WiFi with just a few taps.
